Anhinga Trail, Everglades National Park

4.6
#2 of 109 in Trails in Florida
Enjoy an easy hike and observe the wildlife on Anhinga Trail, a boardwalk over Taylor Slough that is 6 km (4 mi) from the Everglades National Park entrance. Walk out 600 m (0.4 miles) over a sawgrass marsh area. From the boardwalk, visitors can often see many different Everglades species, from local birds to large reptiles, such as alligators. The trail is wheelchair-accessible, but cycling is not allowed. Plan my trip to Everglades National Park with suggested itineraries provided by Inspirock.

  • A great place to stop in Everglades National Park. A beautiful boardwalk with birds and gators. Saw a gator try to sneak up on a bird and another bird catch a cat fish for food.  more »
  • It is a very comfortable and easy to make wooden footbridges tour. It has many places to see the flora and fauna of the area in less than a mile. In our case, just start the way we saw water duck American (Anhinga anhinga) which seemed that it was posing for all visitors. In December, when we were, there were no mosquito. A very quiet, interesting place

  • This short trail is reached via the Ernest F. Coe Entrance on the east side of Everglades National Park. It is a connected series of boardwalks through a mangrove swamp. We saw 7 wild alligators on a ...  more »

  • This is a very nice trail. It is 100% ADA accessible so anyone who can walk at least a mile can do it. Normally I don't love boardwalk trails but this one is great because it allows you to really get a look into the Everglades water. Wildlife really abounded and we were treated to seeing many birds and animals.
  • A good place to visit if you want to get a quick feel of what the Everglades park is all about. Park rangers provide good information and show people around the place. You get to see a lot of wildlife including alligators. The best time to visit in order to see more wildlife is the dry season during my the winter. Normally, at that time water is not so much and wildlife concentrates around the few remaining bodies of water. It can be quite a show!
  • Loved the walk, very short trail and not much to see, but it was nice. You can. Definitely find some alligators here. Worth a visit, and nearby trials are also really nice, easy and interesting. Come in the winter times because it'll be cooler
  • Absolutely amazing. Any visit to the Everglades MUST include this trail. By far the most impressive gathering of wildlife I have ever seen outside of a zoo, and with no fences or glass! You can't touch anything, obviously, but you can get pretty close to some of them. Tons of birds, plenty of alligators, and cute little turtles you can spot if you look closely. It's a short trail, so take your time and enjoy!
  • Lots of birds and alligators in a natural habitat setting. You can get very close to the animals. They are not afraid of people. Very nice path/boardwalk. Small gift shop, toilets and pop machines with drinks for $1 as of March 2018.
