Founded in 1869 by the British, Lesotho's main city--Maseru--lies on the border with South Africa on a plateau surrounded by red hills.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Ha Kome Cave Houses and Morija Museum & Archives. Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Thaba-Bosiu National Monument and Royal Palace. Step out of Maseru with an excursion to Gates of Paradise Pass in Malealea--about 1h 20 min away. There's still lots to do: take in the awesome beauty at Maluti Mountains and stop by Lesotho Co-operative Handicrafts.

Johannesburg, South Africa to Maseru is an approximately 2-hour flight. You can also drive. Traveling from Johannesburg in April, expect nights in Maseru to be about the same, around 12°C, while days are a bit cooler, around 23°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 29th (Sat) early enough to travel back home.
