Christuskirche, Windhoek

3.7
#3 of 13 in Historic Sites in Namibia
Located in the city's historic center, Christuskirche represents an example of Gothic Revival architecture, built between 1907 and 1910 and accented with Art Nouveau elements. The church boasts a spire made from quartz sandstone, while part of its roof and three bronze bells were sent from Germany. The stained glass windows, a gift from Emperor Wilhelm II, remain the building's major feature. Christuskirche is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our world travel planner, Windhoek Edition.

  • The Christus church is a Historic place in Windhoek. Which is one of the most beautiful places in Windhoek. It is not that big, but very meaningfull. Many of the parts build in this Church come from Europe. Like the lead glass in the church which is by the way very beautifull and quite colourfull was a gift from Emperor Whilem II. This place can easyly be found because it is in the middle of a traffic Island on the Robert Mugabe Avenue, opposite of the Tintenpalast.
  • A beautifull historic Lutheran Church that overlooks the city centre. It's close to the parliament gardens, independence museum, Alte Feste and Botanical Gardens. Well worth a visit.
  • Beautiful landmark....Can't help take a picture. Next time will stop and make time to admire better.
  • Each and every year I travel to the other side of the planet. As Austrian winter is cold and dark. In January 2014 I toured around at Windhoek. Enjoyed the living community and friendly people.
