Diaz Point, Luderitz

3.6
#2 of 11 in Things to do in Luderitz
Admire pristine nature at Diaz Point, the tip of the Lüderitz Peninsula and part of the area's nature reserve. Protruding some 50 m (164 ft) into the South Atlantic, the point offers exciting and sweeping views of the ocean. A 53 m (174 ft) tall red and white banded lighthouse guards the tip, but is unfortunately not accessible to the public. When the tide goes down, look out beyond the lighthouse to see the Diaz Cross, erected on the spot where Portuguese navigator Bartholomew Diaz first set up a stone cross on the headland in 1488. Keep your eyes peeled and you might also see Cape fur seals basking on the rocks. A visit to Diaz Point represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Luderitz tour itinerary maker site to plot your vacation.

  • Wind, waves and fog. Take care when you climb up if it´s windy. But it´s worth the quick climb as the view is spectacular. The waves are just brutal, but make for wonderful pictures. It´s worth the dr...  more »
  • Diaz Pont is located outside of Lüderiz. The actual cross is situated on a rock from which good overlooking the Bay. Before the Diaz Point where very many seals, cormorants, and also penguins cavort rocks. Scenically, however not very spectacular

  • Lovely rocky coves beaches and excellent crayfishing. In addition certain uncommon sea birds nest in the area. Unfortunately the restaurant was not fully operational and toilets out of order.  more »

  • An amazing, beautiful place. Untouched in so many ways. Seriously Westcoast, rustic, sand- & sea-beaten. With lots of evidence of the Brown Hyenas. An absolute must visit to be quiet & take in nature!
  • It is such an important site, but unfortunately very run down and not maintained at all. Worth a visit but be aware that no maintenance is done here anymore.
  • Is a good place just to see the see from the above. And because of its historical side. The wind are very strong.
  • Very beautiful and everybody should see it when visiting Namibia !
  • The road to Dias Point is really nice, the whole Lüderitz peninsula is a must go. Dias Point un particular is nice but not great. Stop there only if you have time. Strong winds and nice waves breaking on the rocks make beautiful photos.
