The Distillery District, Toronto

4.4
Once home to the British Empire's biggest producer of spirits, The Distillery District now represents one of Toronto's top tourist hubs, packed with shops and bars housed inside preserved Victorian-era buildings. This ten-street quarter contains dozens of old warehouses converted into modern art galleries, artist workshops, trendy eateries, and upscale boutiques. A popular gathering place for both tourists and locals, the neighborhood is especially crowded on weekends, when newlyweds come to pose in front of the area's iconic redbrick buildings. Browse the website for upcoming events, which include live jazz performances, food festivals, and art exhibits. The Distillery District is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our world travel planner, Toronto Edition.

  • With an air of inner city, an ancient beverage factory became a location with shops and restaurants. Lovely place that must be seen in toronto.

  • Depends where you live this might definitely be a place worth seeing. I can imagine that it's quite a fun place at nights hanging around, having good food in the restaurants in this area, but honestly I wouldn't take a long ride just to see this place. It took me 45min to get there and based on the descriptions I read, I actually expected more... it's simply old factory buildings they put "fancy" stores in... and yeah there is definitely couple of cool stuff you can buy there, but that' s it. I missed some nice flair, nice atmosphere and I wonder where it got lost... because you really can do more out of these buildings... Even the recent artfest could not change my opinion... the atmosphere there was definitely not "fest-alike"...
  • Totally love the feel of distillery district. Being a photographer too I love doing my shoots there. Always something or the other going on there like exhibition etc. Recently there was a shooting of a TV series going on. All in all it is a fun place with shops and restaurants. Good for summers.
  • This place looks really amazing. I'm used to the European style old towns so this one was quite surprising. I like the industry style buildings - they're perfectly maintained. Will definitely come back.
  • Lots of shopping and food. Great place to bike too if you are in Toronto. Lots of photo opportunities. Must have seen about 6 wedding parties taking photos.
  • A beautiful place to take friends or a date. Between their one-of-a-kind vendors, Cacao 70 and their antique shops... You've got the perfect afternoon.

Where to stay in Toronto

Most visitors stay in the historic neighborhood of Old Toronto, as the central district offers unparalleled access to the best attractions in the city and several metro stations within walking distance. If you're looking for a different taste of Toronto, stay in the trendy neighborhoods of West Queen West or King West Village, popular for their nightlife, arts, and cafe scenes. You can embrace Toronto's multicultural charms by staying in Chinatown, perhaps the city's best location for foodies.
