We spent about 3 hours there with 8 kids ranging from 8 to 17 and loved it. We did the Feely boxes and would highly recommend it. Lots of interesting art to see there including contemporary pieces.  more »

Firstly, before entering meets you giant spider. Okay, the animal would it would be something nice and pretty, well, there's the dolphins or giraffes, and the spider! that was, moreover, a symbol of the city:-( I have personally, insects don't cause positive emotions. but maybe I'm not right?! Further, the Museum building itself a bit does not fit into the concept of the city. This ultramodern structure really does not tally with the classic Cathedral. But maybe I'm not right?! Inside the collected strange abstraction exhibits, but he and Museum to surprise visitors:-) and yet there are temporary exhibitions, which gives some variety:-) And finally, behind the building of the Museum Park (Ottawa is a very green city!, see my posts etc.), but again with strange objects: a giant needle (a symbol of what?), the lantern with twelve lamps and whatnot incomprehensible. If I wrote novels in the fantasy style, then I would, perhaps, would find inspiration in this museum. and because I write detective novels, then deal more complicated: the killer was a spider? well, then this is a horror movie of some sort, rather than the detective!

Definitely worth while if you like art. It is easy to spend hours here as the collections are extensive. The gallery is sorted into different sections based on type (photography, modern, Renaissance, etc.) So if you do not have a day to dedicate to seeing everything, you can choose the areas that match your interests. Lots of interesting mediums and very educational.

Really enjoyed the Canadian Art Collection for Canada's 150 celebration! My favorite was the 40 voice motet by Janet Cardiff in the Rideau Chapel. I also liked the courtyard garden and reflective pool. I felt like I was in an Escher print. Beautiful building. Also, I appreciated the volunteers who are present in the gallery to ask questions to freely. Gained more insight into work as they used tablets to make connections with other artists and history.

Great place to visit if you are from Ottawa or visiting! Wonderful display and pride in First Nations art and artists. Very interesting architecture in the building. The cafe has nice food, a little bit pricey, but the museums affordable admission off sets this. Also! Students get a near 50% discount on admission fees! Great brain food! I can't wait to go again!

Outstanding! My four year old daughter took advantage of an opportunity try on a costume. Her challenge was to find the painting that the costume was based on. It was remarkable to watch as she scoured the gallery and really looked at the paintings while trying to find a girl wearing the same cloths as her. I would really like to thank the person who thought of this activity.

A world class collection of aboriginal, Canadian, American and European art. Many famous works are housed here. The building itself is a work of art. The ambiance is light, airy and serene. No huge crowds even in mid-summer.
