Learn about pre-Columbian European cultures in the Americas at L'Anse Aux Meadows National Historic Site, a World Heritage Site. Thought to date back to the year 1000 CE, the ruins of the Norse or Viking settlement have been widely accepted as proof of European cultures crossing the Atlantic and contacting indigenous peoples before the times of Columbus. • Superb. Visit the past. Great interpretation center and the staff at the reenactment sites are great. Big shout out to Redbeard. Made my daughter's trip.
  • This is where the Vikings stopped to hunt, work on their boat, and explore. A archaeological site with a wonderful museum and a lot of walking. Very much a ALL day kind of visit. With lots of history and cool exhibits, inside and outside. I can see family members of all ages enjoying it.
  • It's not easy to see from the Viking remains how this settlement looked, but the recreations help. The guides could have been more historically knowledgeable, but their local knowledge was superb and very interesting. We took a guided tour and our guide was born and raised a stones throw from the settlement. He played there as a child, had great stories of growing up, and was a witness to the archeology. Not to be missed
  • Did a tour. The guides are so knowledgeable. What a great place
  • We heavily debated whether we should spent most of our day driving the 4+ hours each way from Rocky Harbour, but we are so glad we did! We really enjoyed the scenic (and windy!) roads to get to the site. The guides were super informative and helpful and we got a beautiful sunny day to hike around the site. I'd recommend staying the night at a nearby site so you can spend more time exploring the beautiful area....we were strapped for time so we had to pick the essentials. We wish we had more time!
